A new Asian leadership accelerator program, designed for those who aspire to fast-track their leadership journey in politics, government and the public sector, is now open for applications.

The 2025 Waratah Program WA, delivered in partnership between The University of Western Australia’s School of Social Sciences and the Asian Leadership Foundation, will run from September 6 to October 25 this year.

The program equips emerging and established leaders with the skills, mindset and knowledge for effective public leadership.

Professor Amanda Davies, Head of UWA’s School of Social Sciences, said the program reflected a commitment to inclusive and transformative leadership.

“We are proud to support a new generation of leaders – particularly those from diverse cultural backgrounds who are ready to shape a more equitable, ethical and engaged public sector,” Professor Davies said.

The program features 10 dynamic sections delivered in a hybrid format – half online and half in person at UWA’s Crawley campus.

It covers civic engagement and strategic decision-making, while supporting culturally and linguistically diverse leaders.

Emphasising ethics, integrity and sustainable change, the program develops leadership and communication skills to navigate complex policy environments and lead with confidence and impact.

Initiated by Associate Professor Maggie Jiang, from UWA’s School of Social Sciences, the program reflects her belief that leadership is about embracing diversity to create a future that is just, inclusive and forward-thinking.
