Name: Celeste Rodriguez Louro
Achievement: Associate Professor Celeste Rodriguez Louro, from UWA’s School of Social Sciences and director of UWA’s Language Lab, has been awarded the inaugural International Society for the Linguistics of English Outreach Prize. The prize honours outstanding initiatives that raise public awareness of English linguistics and foster engagement beyond academia.
Name: Kathryn Fitzgerald
Achievement: WA Centre for Rural Health senior lecturer Kathryn Fitzgerald is one of six new members elected to the Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators 2025 Committee of Management. Ms Fitzgerald is an allied health professional and rural health advocate with over 35 years of experience. The Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators is for practitioners involved in education and training of health professionals. Ms Fitzgerald said she was looking forward to contributing to the committee. “While offering my experience, insight, and commitment to advancing health professions education across Australia and New Zealand, I know this will enable me to further develop my skills and networks,” she said.

Name: Mehwish Nasim
Achievement: Dr Mehwish Nasim, from UWA’s School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing, is a finalist in the Australian Defence Industry Awards for Academic of the Year. She is a senior lecturer in Computer Science and a member of the UWA’s Defence and Security Institute. The awards program is dedicated to recognising the top businesses and professionals in the defence industry across the nation. The list of finalists includes over 200 distinguished professionals and organisations across 27 submission-based categories. Being named a finalist is regarded as a significant accomplishment within the defence sector, reflecting sustained dedication and impactful contributions by individuals, teams and enterprises advancing the field. Award recipients will be announced at an event at the National Convention Centre Canberra on Thursday 10 July
