Charting the future of Western Australia’s education system will be the subject of a panel discussion hosted by UWA’s Public Policy Institute and the Fogarty Foundation next month.
The event will be held at The University Club of Western Australia on Wednesday 12 February.
Educated will explore the challenges and opportunities for advancing education through policy initiatives that would have a lasting impact on future generations of students.
Speakers include WA Education Minister Dr Tony Buti, education champion Annie Fogarty AM, Shenton College’s Head of Learning Community and UWA graduate Anish Badgeri and Director of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy WA, Cameron Thorn, also a UWA graduate.
Former UWA Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Emeritus Professor Bill Louden, who chaired the state's Literacy and Numeracy Review Taskforce, will moderate the discussion.
The event follows the Fogarty Foundation’s recent discussion paper, which outlined strategic priorities for education reform ahead of March’s State election.
The key priorities included building a strong, supported teaching workforce, implementing coordinated curriculum planning across schools, positioning schools as community hubs and creating meaningful pathways for student growth.
“As an organisation dedicated to enhancing educational outcomes, we believe education is the cornerstone of a prosperous and healthy state,” Professor Louden said.
“We feel that by addressing these key areas, WA can take significant strides toward creating a more equitable and effective education system for all and hope that education leaders, policymakers and community advocates can join us for this important forum.”
The breakfast event will be held on Wednesday 12 February from 7am to 9am at The University Club of Western Australia.
