One of Australia’s longest-running public lectures on economic policy, the annual Shann Memorial Lecture was introduced to honour the memory of the Foundation Professor of Economics at UWA, Edward Owen Giblin Shann.
Recognised as the pioneer of academic development of economics and traditional Australian economic history, Professor Shann was a strong advocate of individual intellectual freedom and developing a sense of social responsibilities.
He wrote several books and essays on the economic history of Australia and was a major influence in formulating financial and fiscal policies in Australia.
Professor Shann also served as UWA Vice-Chancellor from 1921 to 1923 and advocated for free markets and flexible prices, small government, fiscal prudence and flexible exchange rates.
Registrations are essential for the free lecture, which runs from 4pm to 5.30pm. Book your ticket here. The event will be livestreamed via the RBA website.
