Noongar Elder Barry Winmar led Team UWA Maali in a traditional Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony ahead of the 2024 UniSport Nationals competition in Canberra, ACT. 

UWA Sport General Manager Jake Wilkins welcomed players of the UWA Maali Nationals team, UWA Sport staff, family and friends to the jersey presentation held at the Sunken Garden on Tuesday 3 September 2024.

UniSport Nationals provides the opportunity for students from more than 40 universities from across Australia to compete head-to-head in a number of sporting competitions.

The ceremony marked the official announcement ofthe new travelling squad ahead of the Nationals competition. Jake Wilkins congratulated the selected athletes, coaches and support staff and acknowledged the significance of representing UWA on a national level.

This year, the UWA Maali team will be competing in Ultimate, Volleyball, Soccer, Netball and Tennis at the 2024 UniSport Nationals in Canberra (Ngunnawal country) later this month. Over 6,000 participants from across the country will battle it out to be crowned national champions in over 31 different sports.
