Eleven exceptional high school graduates from Western Australia have been awarded a prestigious scholarship to study at The University of Western Australia.

The UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarships offer financial backing to students throughout their university experience, enabling them to pursue their academic and career ambitions. The scholarships cover undergraduate and, in certain cases, postgraduate studies.

The Beazley Medal is conferred by the WA Certificate of Education in recognition of exceptional academic achievement, awarded to students attaining the highest examination marks across five ATAR courses in Year 12.

"I feel incredibly privileged and grateful to receive both the 2023 Beazley Medal and the UWA Fogarty Scholarship," Elena said. "I am truly honoured to be a part of the incredible community of Fogarty scholars and alumni, and am deeply grateful for both the Foundation’s support, and the numerous, invaluable opportunities that are on offer as a Scholar, that I hope will not only enable me to grow personally and professionally, but also allow me to instigate change in society and give back to my community."

UWA Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor David Sadler acknowledged the impact of the UWA Fogarty Scholarship Program, providing support to almost 200 students since its beginnings in 2004.

"This year we welcome a group of eleven outstanding individuals, each equipped with the passion and potential to make a meaningful difference in our community and beyond,” Professor Sadler said.
