UWA Open Day is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our world-leading campus and facilities. 2024 saw our largest attendance to date, with up to 18,000 visitors all coming to enjoy a showcase of our courses, research, employability and career opportunities, student support services and extracurricular activities.
Throughout the day, we ran some extremely popular “Discover Engineering” Information Sessions, which were attended by more than 600 prospective students and their families. The sessions were hosted by Head of School Tim Sercombe, who provided an in-depth look at our four-year Engineering program and the hands-on learning and practical experiences we offer. Feedback received in a post-event survey included “The engineering session was really awesome” and “The Discover Engineering presentation was very informative, providing a good overview of the engineering field”.
The Engineering Hub in Level 1 of EZONE was bustling with a constant stream of people, where attendees had the opportunity to meet our academics, current students and alumni to learn about courses and careers in engineering. We were thankful that our partners at Chevron Australia, Engineers Australia, GPA Engineering, Rio Tinto and Tutman Risk Engineering were able to attend to talk directly to prospective students and their families about what it’s like in the field. It was also fantastic to have our Girls+ in Engineering program feature exhibits with industry representatives from Rio Tinto.

We had a great representation of student clubs scattered throughout EZONE and the Engineering building. Thank you to the University Engineers’ Club, UWA Motorsport Team, SPE UWA, UWA Makers, UWA Robotics Club, Women in Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineers of WA, Coders for Causes, IEEE and UWA Aerospace for your enthusiasm in helping to showcase the exciting world of STEM and Engineering at UWA!
This year's additions included a dedicated building for our Automation and Robotics discipline, showcasing our robot demonstrations and the new driving simulator. These interactive exhibits allowed visitors to engage with cutting-edge technology and gain hands-on experience.
Overall, the day was a resounding success, with attendees reporting an impressive satisfaction score of 94.5 per cent! Thank you to all the staff and student volunteers who helped promote Engineering and UWA.
