UWA Sport General Manager Jake Wilkins welcomed members of UWA Martial Arts clubs, Western Australian Kendo Renmei, Wrestling WA and the Consul-General of Japan in Perth, Mr Natio Yasushi to the inaugural Martial Arts Festival held at UWA on Friday 16 August 2024.
The inclusive event provided all students and community members the opportunity to celebrate diversity and inclusion through engaging with a range of martial arts experiences. The festival, presented in collaboration with the UWA Martial Arts clubs and West Australian Kendo Renmei Inc. And supported by Study Perth, introduced students to a unique sporting experience through various disciplines of martial arts. The opening ceremony recognised the importance of the UWA Martial Arts clubs and their contribution to sports and student experience at UWA.
The vibrant atmosphere at the UWA Recreation and Fitness Centre featured various martial arts demonstrations, workshops, and activities from a variety of disciplines, as well as music and food trucks that helped create lifelong memories for all who attended.

They play an integral role in building a sense of community and offering social engagement opportunities for students, staff and community members. I am proud of all those that contributed to this collaborative event."
