Population Health Research Network wins $10.24M funding boost

The Australian Government Department of Education has today announced Population Health Research Network (PHRN) will receive an additional $10.24 million in funding under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), to address Australia’s strategic science and research priorities, benefit industry and keep Australians healthy.

This is in addition to $26.4 million operational funding provided for the PHRN in 2023-28 through NCRIS 2022.

The new funding includes $5.88 million for PHRN’s Trial Link initiative which will create a range of linked data assets and services for researchers developing new medical products.

PHRN Chief Executive Dr Merran Smith welcomed the additional funding, which would enable the network to undertake some exciting new initiatives.

“We will be able to make greater use of population linked data for clinical trials and related purposes, while further developing Australian’s world class national data linkage infrastructure,” Dr Smith said.

“Our focus will include new services to support Australia’s pharmaceutical and medical devices industries.”

The PHRN has been hosted by UWA since its inception in 2009, with UWA the lead agent for this NCRIS capability.
