Representatives from The University of Western Australia and University Football Club (UFC), along with family and friends of the late Neil Donaldson, broke ground to celebrate the start of construction at UWA Sports Park.
A new pavillion will improve the UFC facilities for future use and revitalise the UWA Sports Park precinct, which will benefit the wider community.
The Neil Donaldson Pavilion reflects the University’s passion for creating positive change through strategic investment.
Named in honour of the UFC legend, whose lifelong commitment to the club saw him serve as a player, coach, manager and president but, most significantly, a loyal supporter and friend, the new Neil Donaldson Pavilion will feature state-of-the-art facilities and vistas across the park.

UWA Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Colmer, said the revitalised facility is vital to suit the growing needs and reflect the heritage and status of the UFC.
“This new clubhouse will be a place to bring all members of the football community together, a place for fellowship, fun and the foundations of lifelong friendships,” Professor Colmer said.
Professor Colmer also recognised the vision and leadership of Roger Steinepreis, UFC Life Member and Neil Donaldson Pavilion Fundraising Committee Chair, along with all the dedicated members of the ongoing fundraising campaign.
The UFC will raise $3 million to ensure the new facility can be enjoyed by the community and club and UWA will contribute the remaining funds.
“In the hands of Western Projects, we look forward to watching the development of the pavilion take shape over the coming year with great anticipation for its future use,” Professor Colmer said.
The responsibility of breaking the ground was shared between UFC President Jake Colvin, Women’s UFC Captain Annie Simpson, Neil Donaldson's nephew Nick Buckland and Professor Colmer.
