UWA Maali fall short in making the 2023 UBL Grand Final with a tough loss against UTS

The quest to make the University Basketball League Grand Final was halted by the undefeated University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in a tough semi-final clash.

UWA Maali were set to take on the greatest challenge this season, defeating the untouchable UTS side that have dominated the league this season. A mouth-watering clash, the unchanged UWA Maali line up struggled to find consistency in the first moments of the game. Nick Floyd secured the teams first points after four minutes of play, nailing a free-throw after trailing by 7 points.

The blue and yellow team were able to rattle UTS throughout the game with momentum shifting between the two sides. However, a slow start proved costly with UWA Maali clawing back a 17-point deficit in the third quarter. After the team regrouped, UWA Maali were able to muster a comeback to close the deficit to only 4 points in the last quarter. The quick ball movement and strong defensive pressure from UTS halted the away team. UWA Maali fought until the last whistle but were unable to stop the reign from the home team, going down 78-71 in the semi-final clash.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches and support staff for representing UWA and producing an outstanding season with great achievements unlocked.
