The Tri Nations match series will involve the Australian Sharks (Men's National Squad) and Stingers (Women's National Squad) competing against Japan and the reigning Olympic champions, USA. This series marks a momenumental moment for Water Polo Australia, as its the first opportunity for the Australian Sharks and Stingers to play in front of a home crowd in three years.
The three-test match series is set to commence on Wednesday 11 January followed by Friday 13 January and Sunday 15 January 2023 at HBF Stadium. These matches will be vital preparation for both Australian teams with the USA women's team and Japanese men's team providing tough competition that will challenge Sharks and Stingers in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
UWA student athlete alumni, Genevieve Longman (Bachelor of Arts - International Relations and Affairs), Lilian Hedges (Bachelor of Science), Andrew Ford (Master of Professional Engineering) and George Ford (Graduate Diploma in Sleep Science) will also feature in the Australian Stingers and Shark squads in the upcoming test match series.
The test match series aligns with the 2023 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships held in Perth, Western Australia between 9 - 19 January 2023, with the UWA Aquatic Centre as host venue for the competition.
