The 23 year old athlete etched himself in history as Australia's fastest ever race walker over 10,000m at the Australian Institute of Sport on Thursday 2 February 2023.
The competitive Supernova 2 race included World Championships medallists and a Olympic medallists but Tingay remained victorious to record a time of 38:03.78 shattering David Smith's previous 1985 national record of 38:20.9. Tingay attributes his success at the recent Supernova 2 event to the four week training block at altitude in the Perisher Valley in preparation for the 10,000m event.
The former UWA Athletics Club member notched an impressive 2022 domestic season with numerous highlights including brilliant personal best time in 5000m and 20km walk, along with helping the Australian team to claim fourth position in the 20km Walk at the World Race Walking Teams Championships in Muscat, Oman. These remarkable feats were topped by clinching a silver medal in the 10,000m race at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in a PB time of 38:42.33.
The motivated athlete quickly shifted focus onto the Australian 20km Championships in Fawkner Park, Melbourne on Sunday 12 February, where he continued to dominant the field. Prior to the championship, Tingay expressed that the championship was the ideal opportunity to record a solid time and set himself up for further success. Tingay secured second spot behind Sweden's Perseu Karlstrom but overall landed as the top Australian 20km Race Walk Champion with a time of 1:20:20.
Tingay will look to continue on his form and peak in the lead up to the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August 2023.
