Australia and the Provision of Maritime Security in the Indian Ocean: Mobilising Regional Partnerships and Leveraging the Alliance

As one of the larger and more developed powers in the Indian Ocean Region, it is in Australia’s interests to contribute significantly towards developing a more robust regional maritime security regime. It is particularly important given the limited amount of resources of many Indian Ocean littoral and island states at a time of numerous emerging maritime threats.
