UWA students represent Australian Dolphins at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships

Kyle Lee and Jack Wilson represented the Australian Dolphins in the Open Water team at the 20th edition of the World Aquatic Championships held in Fukuoka, Japan from 23 – 30 July.

After a successful season, Kyle Lee and Jack Wilson was announced as part of the 38-person Australian Dolphins team to compete at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka.

The two talented open water swimmers showed depth on the world stage in Fukuoka at the open water 5km event. Kyle Lee secured a top 10 finish with a placing of 8th overall, and Jack Wilson finished 13th in the 5km event.

Recently, Kyle Lee propelled his career by capturing two titles at the 2023 Australian Open Water Championships. Lee won the 5km open water title whilst Wilson finished in 4th place. The pair joined forces in the relay team to win the 4x1500m mixed freestyle relay alongside UWA alumni Chloe Truscott.

Kyle Lee delivered an incredible finish to his Fukuoka open water campaign, winning the 4x1500 Mixed relay race to secure a bronze medal for Australia. In a close finish, Lee’s effort outweighed Germany’s comeback, helping the Dolphins secure their first medal in the team event since winning silver at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai.
