UWA Maali travelled to regional Victoria in a match up against the Federation University Falcons in Ballarat, Victoria for Round 6 of UBL.
A strong start for both teams, UWA Maali put the scoreboard pressure on the Victorian rivals immediately. A dominate display of basketball, UWA Maali took the lead for the entire game, putting the foot on the pedal to run away with a convincing margin. At this point of the season, percentage differentials will prove to be pivotal in securing a higher ladder position. As motivation, UWA Maali men rotated the bench with each player performing to produce a 107 – 84 win over the Fed Falcons. Nick Floyd was instrumental in the game, dominating the field goals with strong drives to basket. Floyd racked up the rebounds and bolstered his 3-point statistics scoring a plethora of three-pointers in the game.
After tasting victory, the UWA Maali women were hungry to win again. The absence of captains Jenna Teasdale and Mya Dimanlig inspired the entire women’s team to step up and take control. In a faultless game, the women’s side controlled the narrative from the inception of the game. The overpowering defence and attacking prowess of UWA Maali ensured the team had a commanding lead by half time. The second half mirrored the first stanza with the women playing with a newfound freedom, scoring three-pointers from every part of the court. Perry Lakes Hawkes recruit, Ellie Newman, was unstoppable in the Round 6 clash. Newman controlled the attacking tempo as the main scorer for the team. Supporting Newman on the scoreboard was Sydney Meares, Abbey Hall and Erin Cleland. Sydney Meares drained three-pointers easily while also heckling the opposition in a strong defensive display. Cleland took advantage of her minutes on court, with a solid field goal game.
Congratulations on UWA Maali walking away with two wins for the second week in a row.
