A spirited UWA Maali team have built into form gaining additional points on the overall ladder heading into the final rounds of season 3 of the University Basketball League (UBL).

UWA Maali Men are peaking at the pivotal part of the season with three games remaining in the regular season. Off the back of a comprehensive win against La Trobe University, the Maali men are displaying a confident brand of basketball on the court, beating rivals Victoria University 76-70. The close encounter reassured players of their ability and strategy to overcome a strong Victorian team. The introduction of Declan Barrett into the line-up added height and experience in the attack end with the tall forward creating great impact. A fearless UWA Maali side continued to command the opposition and outshined the University of Adelaide in an emphatic 103 - 72 win at home. Laying down the law, Tom Gerovich, debuted in his first UBL game with a show-stopping introduction to the league with impressive statistics. The 19-year-old averaged 27 points, with 12 field goals made, 2 three points made, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. A remarkable introduction into the league as the WA U20 representative showed he belongs on the big stage. Kyiah O'Donohue has also displayed clinical performances during the season averaging 16 points, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

In similar form, the UWA Maali women have dug deep in the back half of the season to secure a win at home against the University of Adelaide. After a close game against La Trobe University, second on the ladder, the UWA Maali took away positive learnings from that game which has inspired the side. Although the women fell short to Victoria University 50-65, the game remained intense with UWA Maali pushing the Victorian opponents to the limits. Sydney Meares has stolen the show this season with a strong defensive game in transition, gaining 7 steals over the season but also showing attacking prowess with 4 assists. Abbey Hall has also raised eyebrows with 30 points over the past six games including 11 field goals, 3 assists and 1 block. As a result, these statistics translated into the women’s side getting the first win of the season against the University of Adelaide. Congratulations to the UWA Maali women on the triumphant 79-47 win.

UWA Maali have three remaining games in the regular rounds of the season against teams positioned lower on the ladder. These games will prove instrumental for both teams to build points and secure a finals birth in the 2023 UBL Season.
