The University of Western Australia is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
As the first free university in the British Empire, UWA was honoured to host the Queen on three separate occasions and we give thanks for her 70 years of service to her nation and the wider Commonwealth.
Her Majesty’s selfless and lifelong commitment to serving her people is reflected in our University’s mission to advance the prosperity and welfare of our communities.
We celebrate her enduring legacy and connections to Australia and our University, which she first visited in 1954, followed by subsequent visits in 1963 and 2000.
The University’s flags will fly at half-mast for the next 10 days, except on the day of accession of the new Sovereign, and in accordance with National flag Protocols.
