Team Maali rising to the top to make finals at UniSport Nationals

The pointy end of the competition is drawing closer as Team Maali look rise to the top to make multiple final appearances across various sports. One team that has risen to the occasion is the Maali Rugby 7’s – Men’s team.

The regular rounds providing a tough challenge for the team but in true Maali spirit, they fought hard to secure a bronze medal match. A tightly contested game, the Maali Rugby 7s team were able to hold off Melbourne University and win the bronze medal. The Mixed Netball team continue their incredible dream run with a win over Deakin University. A remarkable effort to remain poised as Deakin University made a last effort resurgence to come back. In the end, Maali remained on top to secure a two-point win. The team finish top of the pool and will compete against Australian National University in the quarterfinals. 

All teams have truly kept the Maali spirit alive this week at UniSport Nationals. Indoor Men’s Volleyball are another team that have displayed tremendous fight. The men have finished top of the ladder and booked a quarterfinal spot with a win over Queensland University of Technology.  Indoor Women’s Volleyball finished second in their pool but were unable to win their elimination round. The team will compete in the division two semi-final against Edith Cowan University at Curtin Stadium. Similarly, Hockey – Men’s team have locked in their undefeated status, clinching a nail bitter game against Melbourne University winning by one point. In a low scoring game, the team will now shift their focus on producing a quality performance in their quarter final game. Hockey – Women’s have extended their swan song with two convincing wins to make a semi final appearance and Perth Hockey Stadium.

The Rowing finals saw the Maali athletes produce triumphant results including five bronze medals, two silver medals and two gold medals.
