A golden day for UWA students competing in UniSport Nationals

After a promising start to the competition, UWA Team Maali continue on the journey towards gold with UWA medalling in events over the weekend. Taekwondo, Judo and Women’s Beach Volleyball were the highlight sports on display. Team Maali displayed dominance on day two with comprehensive wins across multiple sports. 

A day of gold for the Maali fencing team with Aron Thian winning Men’s Foil – Individual. Shortly after, Thian, Dale and Ruffo won Men’s Foil – Teams and also placed 4th in the Men’s Sabre – Teams.  The golden run continued with Alex Foster winning the Women’s Judo under 63kg category. Naqib Sarvari showed promise in Taekwondo finishing third and collecting bronze in the 54kg black belt. The powerful partnership of Alchin and Kreen remain undefeated and have secured a spot in the gold medal game on Tuesday 27 September 11:00am.

Team Maali impressed on Monday with continued triumph in the regular rounds of play with both Indoor Men’s Volleyball teams securing wins. Other sports including Mixed Netball and Men’s Hockey clinched solid victories with comfortable wins elevating Team Maali on the points ladder. UWA Water Polo team put on a clinic in their first day of competition asserting their dominance in the pool. The team produced compelling wins over Australian National University and Macquarie University, only allowing their rivals one point each. Unfortunately, Men’s Basketball have been plagued with injuries and have started the competition with two losses along with the Women’s Netball team who were unable to secure wins on Monday.

Team Maali will aim to boost their winning start in the regular rounds with the fourth day of competition involving, Hockey, Soccer, Rugby 7s, Touch Rugby, Women’s Beach Volleyball and Indoor Volleyball.
