UWA students will be heading to the field in Adelaide this weekend in the first of three tournaments in the Uni Women's Sevens tournament.

The University Women's Sevens series is a tournament for senior female rugby sevens players representing universities from around Australia. With the support of Rugby Australia, the 2022 season will consist of three tournaments hosted in Adelaide, Newcastle and Canberra throughout October.

UWA last competed in the competition in its second year in 2019, and with border restrictions eased, the Maali are rearing to get back into the competition. In 2022, UWA will be competing against The University of Adelaide, Bond University, University of Canberra, The University of Newcastle, The University of Melbourne, and The University of Sydney.

The squad is coached by a stellar team led by head coach Dylan Parsons, who has been involved in the rugby community for over 20 years as a player, coach and mentor. Dylan is the head coach of the Western Force Academy, and has previous experience with teams in the UK, Japan and NRL. Dylan is assisted by three assistant coaches, Matt Hodgson, a former professional rugby union player for both the Western Force and the Wallabies; Richard Kahui, a Western Force player and member of the 2011 World Cup-winning All Blacks team; and Ashlee Temple, captain of the 2020 Western Force Super W team. The coaching team are joined by physiotherapist Simon Parsons, Strength and Conditioning coach Yosuke Kotani and team manager Martin Lynn.
