UWA Maali finished 3rd overall at the University Women’s Sevens series, breaking a record as the first UWA team to secure a medal on the big stage after five seasons. The University Women’s Sevens series is a tournament for senior female rugby sevens players representing universities from around Australia. With the support of Rugby Australia, the 2022 season consisted of three tournaments hosted in Adelaide, Newcastle, and Canberra throughout October.

The UWA Maali women produced a stellar performance across the three tournaments and have reaped the rewards of building a strong collective of players within in the squad with five representatives selected into the University Women’s Sevens Rising Stars Team.

I'm excited to soak in the wealth of knowledge that will be surrounding the 'Rising Stars' coaches panel. I also look forward to the opportunity to support the four UWA Maali players in the team.

The star-studded team is a collection of the top talented players across the University Women's Sevens series. A special mention to the UWA Maali squad earning the most representatives with four players and one coach. The scope of talent is evident in the depth of the UWA Maali squad with the opportunity to face higher level opposition only bolstering the future of the sport. The team will gather on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday 8 November for final preparations before debuting in the Queensland State Sevens Championships. The two-day event will commence on Saturday 12th November in Noosa.

I'm looking forward to gaining experience at a high level and expanding my knowledge in the game and working with other talented female athletes. I also want to acknowledge that my selection is a credit to my UWA Maali team mates.
