A scientist instrumental in Margaret River being established as a wine region and a Noongar professor who was the first Aboriginal medical practitioner to be awarded a PhD are among the 24 staff and alumni from The University of Western Australia recognised in this year’s Australia Day Honours.
Professor Sandra Eades and Dr John Gladstones were recipients of the Officer of the Order of Australia. Dr Eades was recognised for distinguished service to medical research, Indigenous health, and professional organisations. Dr John Gladstones received his honour for distinguished service to primary industry, particularly agriculture and viticulture, and as an author.
Recipients of a Member of the Order of Australia included Professor Marc Tennant for significant service to tertiary dental education, and professional associations; Professor Denise Chalmers for significant service to tertiary education and professional associations; and Professor Bronwyn Stuckey for significant service to medical research, endocrinology and women's health.
