Two members of the UWA community, Rhiannon Clarke and Ella Pardy recently travelled to Tokyo to represent Australia in the Paralympic Games. Rhiannon Clarke is a first-year student studying a bachelor of Science (Wildlife Conservation) combined with a Master of Biological Science, and a member of the UWA Athletics Club. Ella Pardy is also a member of the UWA Athletics Club.
Both Rhiannon and Ella competed in the Women's 100m - T38 event. In the first heat, Ella placed 5th with a time of 13.15 seconds, a season best. Meanwhile, in the second heat, Rhiannon finished 2nd with a time of 13.10 seconds, also a season best. These stellar efforts saw both athletes qualify for the final later that evening. In the final, Ella ran another season best of 13.14, seeing her place in 7th place, while Rhiannon placed 5th, also with a further season best of 13.08 seconds.
Rhiannon Clarke also competed in the Women's 400m - T38. Rhiannon ran 1:02.65 in her heat, placing 4th and achieving an Area Record, seeing her advance to the final. In the final, Rhiannon again finished the race with 1:02.65, achieving an equal Personal Best and placing 7th in the competition.
