Can you help us? UWA Historical Society Vietnam War nominal roll

23/10/2021 | 4 minutes

The UWA Historical Society (UWAHS) have launched a project to record and document UWA staff, students, and graduates who served in the Australian Defence Forces during the Vietnam War era.

If you or a loved one served in this conflict, worked at UWA between 1962 to 1972 and/or studied before, during or after this era, we implore you to help contribute to this project.

The early work of the UWAHS project team, has resulted in a list of three hundred possible people. Please check if you, or a friend or relative are listed here and if they are, contact the UWAHS by way of the online form on the portal, to confirm their details. Similarly, if you have information on any service personnel, you know of, who were part of the Vietnam conflict but remained in Australia – and were similarly associated with UWA, please show your support and give us a hand in making sure we have you or your friends and family members listed here.

The UWAHS project team behind this appeal, “feel it is important to honour and commemorate every individual service and having made a great start on compiling a preliminary list, it’s the right time to extend our search.” The Nominal Roll project helps provide a snapshot of UWA staff, students and graduates who served during the Vietnam conflict, saluting their service to our nation, and continues the important work of the UWAHS in collecting and preserving records that reflect our shared history and identity.

Please be assured that all information provided will be treated with the utmost respect and be verified using official sources including the Department of Veteran Affairs, Australian War Memorial and University archives.
