The annual Fogarty Foundation InspirED event, to celebrate the achievements of some of our most talented West Australian students and UWA Fogarty Scholars, was held on October 14 at the award-winning EZONE UWA.
Fogarty Foundation Executive Officer Ms Caitlyn Fogarty (MCom, Adv, ‘15) hosted the occasion and distinguished guests alongside Dr Annie Fogarty AM (BA ’81, DLitt ‘08), Fogarty Foundation Executive Chairperson and 2020 West Australian of the Year.
Among the attendees were Professor Amit Chakma, The University of Western Australia's Vice-Chancellor, Mr David Gainer, US Consult General, and The Hon Julie Bishop, Chancellor of ANU.
The Fogarty Foundation invests in education to provide opportunities for individuals to realise their potential and to change and enrich lives.
One of their key initiatives is the UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarship Program, one of Australia's most prestigious scholarship programs.
It is a joint venture between the Fogarty Foundation and UWA, investing in the future leaders of our country.
“The Fogarty Scholarship has been an incredible opportunity with a supportive and driven group of Scholars. The wide range of interests and achievements continues to amaze and inspire me,”Emma Bond, Bachelor of Philosophy student and UWA Fogarty Scholar studying Engineering.
In addition to the financial scholarship, the UWA Fogarty Scholars participate in a tailored Leadership and Enterprise Program which provides the opportunity to network with various leaders and entrepreneurs through a range of events and seminars.
This provides the scholars with broader insight into major challenges within the community and opportunities to contribute to solutions.
The program offers extensive networking with business and community leaders, public speaking, academic mentoring and access to enterprise funding through the Scholars Enterprise Investment Program.
"The Fogarty Foundation and Fogarty Scholarship have opened pathways and networks that I would otherwise not have dreamt of pursuing in my education, my professional development, and my growth as a leader in the community," said Patrick Morton, Bachelor of Philosophy student and UWA Fogarty Scholar studying Engineering. "Most of all they have allowed me to maximise my university experience."
