UWA student athletes compete at Nationals Athletics

From 21 to 24 April, a number of UWA Student Athletes represented the University at the UniSport Nationals Athletics in Sydney.

Despite being the only entrant in the 5000m Men’s Race Walk, Declan Tingay still managed to set a new UniSport record of 19:04.60 minutes, improving on the previous record by more than 2 seconds.

In other results, Sarah Hynes competed in both the 400m, where she placed 14th, and 800m races, where she placed 8th. Sarah also competed in the invitational team for the 4x100m relay, achieving a bronze medal. Anika Gosling won bronze in discus, and placed 4th in Shot Put. Michael Christie also competed in the high jump, however, was unable to get a jump on the board.

Congratulations to Declan, Sarah, Anika and Michael for their efforts in the competition.

The next UniSport Nationals event is Triathlon, to be held in NSW on 8 May.
