When UWA’s Engineering and Mathematical Science students return to face-to-face teaching later this month, they won’t just be reuniting with friends and teachers – they’ll also be able to use the brand new five-storey building: EZONE Central.
EZONE Central forms part of the $80 million EZONE UWA Student Hub, which houses three world-class engineering laboratories, 14 flexible learning studios and dedicated space for 150 research students.
The EZONE concept, formed nearly a decade ago, is a project that Executive Dean of Engineering and Mathematical Science Professor John Dell has been stewarding from vision to completion.
“Through EZONE UWA, we will create knowledge and technologies previously unimagined. It will be a legacy for future generations, and develop leaders with the skills and talent to ensure the continued success of our industries and our State,” Professor Dell said.
The facility is designed to bring together students, industry and researchers, with extensive informal collaboration and study areas, and an industry engagement area including space for student start-ups. All UWA students will be able to use the informal learning spaces and this will add high-quality capacity to the west side of the Crawley campus.
Professor Dell is grateful for the collaboration and project support from UWA’s Campus Management team.
“The project managers have worked exceptionally hard and achieved a fantastic result on the construction of the building – they should be very proud of the outcome,” he said.
The EZONE UWA Student Hub was made possible with support from BHP, Woodside and alumni donors.
