We can learn a great deal from our universe, and the Science of Discovery dares to delve into the stars and research what makes up our galaxy, from pure mathematics and gravitational wave technology, to quantum information and radio astronomy.
Research within the Science of Discovery allows Engineering and Mathematical Sciences Schools to learn about the tools and techniques mathematicians, scientists and engineers use to find solutions to real-world problems.

$6 million to commercialise EMS Research
The Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences’ (EMS) Senior Research Fellow, Dr Brendan Kennedy, leads the cross-disciplinary research team behind the newly established Perth Company, OncoRes Medical. The company has recently secured up to $6 million of funding to commercialise a surgical tool, developed by Dr Kennedy’s team of researchers at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and the University of Western Australia.
