Michelle Gunawan is in her second year of her Bachelor of Commerce, studying Accounting and Finance. A little unsure of exactly what her future would hold, she chose UWA for its wide range of study options.

”I don’t agree with the pressure society places on students to have to know exactly what they want to do,” she said. “Uni is a great place to explore yourself and your interests, and see what you find along the way.”

And so, Michelle has gone about exploring her interests in several ways in her time at uni so far. 

In undertaking the Careers and Employability award, she’s been connected with a mentor in the finance industry. They’ve discussed her career options, and he’s even helped her out with writing her CV.

Michelle also took the opportunity last year to complete the Practera Business Opportunity Accelerator Program, where she worked with a local cosmetics start-up, Mud and Musk, to help with market research and social media. This work experience program was fully online, meaning Michelle could work from home, uni, or wherever she liked.

To top it all off, Michelle is also part of UWA’s Indonesian Students Society (INDOSS), organising events for Indonesian students and those interested in Indonesian culture. 

As club secretary, Michelle sets the agenda and takes the minutes in meetings with other executive members, ensuring every session runs smoothly.
