Theme: Business analytics and insights

The Centre for Business Data Analytics at UWA Business School invites you to participate in the 1st Asia-Pacific Business Analytics Conference, scheduled to take place on Friday 21 October 2022 in Perth, Western Australia. 

The program will offer keynote sessions from leading academic and industry speakers, parallel presentation sessions and poster sessions to share your ideas, explore on-going research, future developments, and to network with leading professionals from academic and industry who are interested in the analysis of fast-moving commercial data using applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Machine learning methods for time series in economics and finance
  • Network analysis in commerce
  • Data visualisation and analytics in marketing
  • Data visualisation and analytics in education and healthcare
  • Supply chain analytics with stochastic, deterministic or artificial intelligence methods

All submissions must be sent in electronically to Dr Frank Liu with a subject heading 'CBDA Conference Submission'. 

Full-paper submissions of original and unpublished scientific research

High-quality scientific submissions will be accepted for presentations at the conference. Submissions must be written in English.

Poster submissions of original scientific research

High-quality submissions will be accepted for poster presentations at the conference and provide the exceptional opportunity to stimulate scientific discussions and exchange novel ideas. 

Academic keynote speaker
Natashia Boland

 

Natashia Boland received her PhD in 1992 from The University of Western Australia, following a joint BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science, also from UWA. After two years of postdoctoral research at The University of Waterloo, Canada, and the School of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISyE) at The Georgia Institute of Technology, respectively, she took up a position in Maths and Stats at The University of Melbourne. In 2008, she moved to The University of Newcastle, Australia, remaining until 2015, when she moved to the USA. There she was Professor in ISyE at Georgia Tech until 2021.

Dr. Boland is an expert in the field of integer linear programming and its application to complex problems in government and industry. Her contributions have spanned theory, algorithms, modelling, and applications, in mining, defence, renewable energy, airline planning, freight transport, logistics, and environmental water management.

Dr. Boland has published more than 90 refereed journal articles and graduated 25 PhD students. Her research has been generously supported by the ARC (11 grants in total), the NSF, and several companies, and she founded and led two university-based business analytics consulting practices. 

Industrial keynote speaker
Dan Navaratnam

Mr. Dan Navaratnam, Product Owner - BI, Analytics, Insight – RAC, leads the Analytics and BI team at RAC. With over 18 years of experience in data prep, analytics, and data visualisation and a passion for automation, he has delivered data and technology outcomes across a broad range of sectors including consumer, finance, mining and minerals, chemicals, trade, and insurance. He and his team lead the development and adoption of the PowerBI ecosystem at RAC and are driving initiatives in data literacy and data upskilling as part of their analytics CoE.

Coert Du Plessis


Coert is a regular keynote speaker, avid angel investor, and scale-up mentor. Coert is CEO of MaxMine, the world leader in productivity technology for miners combining expert coaching, AI, Industrial IoT, and Software as a Service. Previously, Coert led BHP's global digital transformation, built BHP's innovation mine, and then led BHP's global data strategy and data initiatives reporting to the Executive Leadership Team. Prior to BHP, Coert was a Senior Partner with Deloitte leading the data analytics practice specialising in machine learning and application in energy and resources. Passion and Energy are core to Coert's presentation style.

Business Impacts Using Big Data Analytics

This proposed special issue seeks both conceptual and empirical papers that attempt to provide new insights through robust analytics and value-based metrics.
