Rural Clinical School of WA (RCSWA) Port Hedland alumna Mia Dorsett-Sawyer has been recognised by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) for her exceptional performance in the specialty.

She received the prestigious 2024 RANZCOG Medical Student Women's Health Award for achieving the highest score for the in-training assessments during her penultimate year with RCSWA.

Mia said she envisioned potentially incorporating women's health into a future GP career, with a particular interest in Aboriginal health and birthing on Country programs.

“I care so deeply about looking after women and femme identifying people that have both reproductive needs but also unique emotional mental needs that I think have often been neglected in healthcare,” she explained.

Reflecting on her RCSWA experience, Mia described it as "genuinely the best year of my life," highlighting the unique combination of hands-on clinical experience and community involvement.

"You get the opportunity to learn from people who are practicing rural medicine extremely well and also the spare time to be so involved in the community,” she said.

RCSWA congratulates Mia on her outstanding achievements and award.
