Know your JMO Society - NorDITS

06/05/2025 | 2 mins

The Northam Doctors in Training Society (NorDITS) was established in November 2023 by Dr Stephen Pannell and quickly fostered a sense of community and collaboration among junior doctors working in the Wheatbelt.

Former president Dr Tara Boyhan reveals more about the group...

Q. Why did you join the NorDITS leadership team?

As an RCSWA medical student in Northam for the year, joining the NorDITS leadership team provided a valuable opportunity to engage closely with the hospital's junior doctors, who are seconded to Northam Hospital for five terms each year. Being a part of the NorDITs team allowed me to form friendships and mentorship with the rotating junior doctors which has fostered my professional and personal development.

Q.  How does NorDITS advocate on behalf of junior doctors if issues arise with problematic supervision, intimidation in the workplace, or industrial relations matters during their employment in the region?

NorDITS has created a supportive and inclusive environment where junior doctors can share their experiences and concerns. The society fosters a sense of team spirit and camaraderie, ensuring that junior doctors feel valued and heard.

Q. If you were asked to write a review about NorDITS, what would it say?

Great dinners and amazing merchandise! Most importantly, it provides a sense of community and much-needed relaxation and enjoyment amidst the demands of medical practice.

Q What would a junior doctor visiting the Wheatbelt be missing out on if they don't connect with NorDITS?

  • Woody’s renowned BBQ skills and the highly sought-after Freddo Frog ice cream cake, all cherished highlights of NorDITS gatherings.
  • A life without our bespoke trusty black pens and cool stickers.
  • Being part of a supportive community that offers camaraderie, mentorship, and advocacy.

Q What is the best way for a junior doctor to get in touch with NorDITS?

The incredible Jo Potts is a project officer for RCSWA Regional Training Hubs and a huge NorDITS advocate. Contact joanne.potts@rcswa.edu.au
