The Dr Arthur and Mary Newnham Fellowship is inviting WA rural medical doctors to apply for up to $12,000 to advance clinical education or public health outcomes in rural communities.
Joint winner of the 2024 Newnham Fellowship and Geraldton GP, Dr Pippin Holmes, has now completed a Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education and plans to keep studying.
“Given the support of the Newnham Fellowship, I have decided to work towards the Graduate Diploma in Health Professions Education,” Dr Holmes said.
Fellow joint winner and Infectious Diseases Physician, Dr Andrew Nguyen, also completed the Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education last year.
Dr Nguyen said he planned to study a Masters in future, once he had completed his advanced training in public health.
“I’m also working towards ANZAHPE recognition and look forward to attending their conference. The Newnham Fellowship has been very helpful in achieving all the above,” Dr Nguyen said.
Arthur, a GP, and his wife Mary were passionate about supporting doctors in rural areas and established the Fellowship in 1987. Their children, Dr Ian Newnham, Ms Helen Newnham, Professor John Newnham and Mrs Jill Morgan, are helping to realise their parents’ vision through the Fellowship.
