Rural Clinical School of WA (RCSWA) Broome Medical Coordinator, Dr Nathan Luies, has been appointed the school's new Sub-Dean for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students.

A proud Karajarri and Yawuru man, Nathan works as a Sports and Exercise Physician with the Broome Aboriginal Medical Service and the Kimberley Medical Group and is the first Indigenous Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician (FACSEP) in Australia.

Nathan has long advocated to improve First Nations and rural health outcomes and is a past Director of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (2020-2021) and an advisor to the AFL. He has also worked with Cricket Australia, Australian Rugby and the Australian Institute of Sport.

He will be the first point of contact for students wishing to discuss wellbeing, learning or academic matters, and will work collaboratively to achieve culturally safe outcomes for students.

The creation of this important leadership role is consistent with RCSWA's long-term commitment to Reconciliation and achieving equal health and life outcomes for all Australians.

Nathan’s work in this role will inform the RCSWA Reconciliation Action Group, which advises the RCSWA Head of Division, and will help guide the implementation of a Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan

Congratulations Nathan.
