A number of UWA Student Athletes and UWA Triathlon Club members achieved success in the State Triathlon Championships at Mullaloo.

UWA Student Athletes Jonney Sammut and Nick Thompson both competed in the Open Male category, finishing the race in first and second place respectively. Jonney found his lead in the swimming leg of the race and, after facing a slight challenge on the bike, finished the race 40 seconds ahead of Nick.

UWA Triathlon Club member and two-time World Champion Felicity Sheedy-Ryan also competed in the Open Female category, also achieving first place. After starting behind some of her competitors, Sheedy-Ryan ended the race one and a half minutes ahead of her closest competitor.

UWA Sport staff member and UWA Triathlon Club member Agostino Zurzolo also achieved first place in the 25-29 age category, and a number of other UWA Triathlon Club members competed, including Daniel Sly, Alexandra Meek, Hamish Delorenzo, Jun-Ting Yeung and Bethan Lowe.

The focus for many club members, including Jonney and Nick, has now turned to the Busselton Half Ironman to be held Saturday 1 May.
