Name: Emeritus Professor Lawrie Beilin AO, UWA Medical School
Achievement: Emeritus Professor Beilin’s outstanding contributions in the field of hypertension were recently recognised when he was awarded the 2021 Peter Sleight Excellence Award in Hypertension Clinical Research from the World Hypertension League.
Name: Professor Ian Reid, Professor Svetha Venkatesh and Professor Gordon Smyth
Achievement: UWA Alumni, Professors Reid, Venkatesh and Smyth have been appointed to the Australian Academy of Science as 2021 Fellows. Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science are among the nation’s most distinguished scientists, elected by their peers for ground-breaking research and contributions that have had clear impact.
Name: Professor Rhonda Clifford and Kate Fulford, UWA School of Allied Health
Achievement: Professor Clifford, Head of UWA’s School of Allied Health, was awarded the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia WA Pharmacist Lifetime Achievement Award for her high standards, professionalism and commitment to pharmacy. Recent Master of Pharmacy graduate Kate, was awarded the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia WA Early Career Pharmacist of the Year for her large contribution to pharmacy in just four years.
Name: Zefeng Zhou, Associate Professor Conleth O’Loughlin and Professor David White, Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems
Achievement: Research Fellow Mr Zhou, Associate Professor O’Loughlin and Professor White were awarded the Telford Gold Medal for the best journal paper across all ICE journals at the ICE Publishing Awards. The winning paper discussed challenges that civil engineers are currently working on to ensure sustainable development.
Name: Chayan Chaterjee, UWA node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav)
Achievement: OzGrav UWA PhD student Chayan, has been selected as the WA semi-finalist for FameLab 2021 ‘Talking Science’, the largest science-communication competition in the world.
