The University of Western Australia has a continual roll call of awards, scholarships and prizes presented to staff and students.

To recognise these achievements, an article is published on UWA Impact and in UWA Forward on the first week of every month. If you know of great awards or achievements across the University please email [email protected].

Name: Associate Professor Fernando Jerez, UWA School of Design
Achievement: Professor Jerez is one of three finalists in the Urban Confluence Silicon Valley competition for his design titled Breeze of Innovation. The architect selected for their winning design will deliver an artistic and iconic structure that embodies the spirit of Silicon Valley innovation.

Name: Professor Dirk Baur, UWA Business School
Achievement: Professor Baur was named one of Australia’s leading researchers in business, economics and management in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers.
Professor Baur was recognised as a national field leader for Finance.

Name: Professor Loretta Baldassar, UWA School of Social Sciences
Achievement: Professor Baldassar was named one of Australia’s leading researchers in the social sciences in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers. Professor Andrich was recognised as a national field leader in Human Migration.

Name: Professor David Andrich, UWA School of Education
Achievement: Professor Andrich was named one of Australia’s leading researchers in the social sciences in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers. Professor Andrich was recognised as a national field leader for Academic and Psychological Testing.

Name: Professor David Edwards, UWA School of Biological Sciences
Achievement: Professor Edwards was named one of Australia’s leading researchers in the life sciences and earth sciences in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers. Professor Edwards was recognised as a national field leader for Agronomy and Crop Science.

Name: Clinical Professor Samuel Vasikaran, UWA School of Medicine
Achievement: Professor Vasikaran was named one of Australia’s leading researchers in health and medical sciences in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers.
Professor Vasikaran was recognised as a national field leader for Clinical Laboratory Science.

Achievement: UWA’s Africa Research and Engagement Centre was named the national institutional leader in the field of African Studies and History in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers and University-business collaborations.

Name: Professor Leigh Simmons, UWA School of Biological Sciences
Achievement: Professor Simmons was named one of Australia’s leading researchers in the life sciences and earth sciences in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers. Professor Simmons was recognised as a national field leader for animal behaviour and ethology.

Name:  UWA
Achievement: UWA was named one of Australia’s leading institutions in the life sciences and earth sciences in The Australian newspaper’s annual list of top 250 researchers and institutions. UWA was recognised as a national field leader for botany.

Name: Good Spirit Good Life Centre for Research Excellence
Achievement: UWA's Medical School has received $2.5m of funding to establish the world's first Good Spirit Good Life Centre for Research Excellence which will deliver evidence needed to improve the health and wellbeing of elderly Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people.
