Our speakers

Meet some of our award-winning and passionate academics who will be attending to introduce you to all things UWA and Perth.

Professor Amitava Datta

Prof. Datta did his MSc in Physics from IIT Kanpur and MTech and PhD in Computer Science from IIT Madras. He did his postdoctoral research at Max Planck Institute for Computer Science and University of Freiburg, both in Germany. He is currently a professor in the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, University of Western Australia. He was also a visiting professor at the Institute for Computer Science, University of Freiburg between 2001-2010. Prof. Datta's research interests are in data mining, parallel and distributed computing, bioinformatics and quantum computing and information. He has published over 150 papers in these areas in reputed international journals and conference proceedings.

Professor Amitava Datta

Associate Professor Michael Palmer

Dr. Michael Palmer is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Western Australia. He is an award-winning teacher and the author of over 20 academic journal articles and handbook chapters. He received a teaching excellence award in the category of post-graduate teaching at the UWA Business School for his teaching into the Masters in Business Analytics and Masters in Economics programs. His research has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (UK), Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Western Australian Department of Health and the World Health Organisation. He received his PhD from the Australian National University and has lived and worked in Vietnam for a period of 5 years including positions at RMIT Vietnam in Hanoi and the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City.
