Admission Requirements

(1) To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—
(a) a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA;
and
(b) must have at least one major study relevant to secondary teaching curriculum areas offered by the University and reflecting the national program standard for teaching. A major is defined as at least 6 semester units of study in a discipline with at least two of those units studied at second year university level and two at third year university level. A minor study is at least 4 semester units in a discipline with a least two units at second year university level;
and
(c) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 60 per cent.
(2) Before admission, international students must obtain a criminal record check from their country of origin or recent residence.

Ranking and Selection Process

Where relevant, admission will be awarded to the highest ranked applicants or applicants selected based on—
(a) a satisfactory personal statement, as recognised by UWA;
and
(b) an interview when requested

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

English Language Requirements

Below is a summary of how the ELC requirement may be satisfied for admission to the UWA Master of Teaching.

At least two years full-time equivalent study at tertiary level in one of the following countries:

  • Australia
  • New Zealand 
  • United Kingdom 
  • Republic of Ireland 
  • United States of America
  • Canada (except Quebec)
  • South Africa, where studies are taught and assessed in English. 

OR

  • A valid IELTS Academic overall score of at least 7.5, a minimum score of 7.0 in the Reading and Writing bands, and a minimum score of 8.0 in the Listening and Speaking bands.

Course structure

Postgraduate coursework degrees and combined (coursework and research) degrees comprise a number of units. Refer to the course structure for more information.

A major comprises one curriculum I unit and one curriculum II unit within the same curriculum area.

A minor also comprises one curriculum I unit and one curriculum II unit within the same curriculum area.

Students with two majors and students with one major and one minor will take 24 points from two groups from within the range Groups A - D and 102 points of core units.

Students with one major and no minor will take two curriculum units (12 points) from within one group between Groups A - D and two units (12 points) from Group E and 102 points of core units.

*Languages Education Curriculum and Technologies Curriculum will not be offered in this course in 2021.
