Roles and responsibilities
Corporate General Managers:
- plan policy and set standards and objectives for organisations
- provide day-to-day direction and management of organisations
- direct and endorse policy to fulfil objectives, achieve specific goals, and maximise profit and efficiency
- assess changing situations and respond accordingly by issuing commands and directives to subordinate staff
- consult immediate subordinates and departmental heads on matters such as methods of operation, equipment requirements, finance, sales and human resources
- authorise the funding of major policy implementation programs
- represent the organisation at official occasions, in negotiations, at conventions, seminars, public hearings and forums, and liaising between areas of responsibility
- prepare, or arrange for the preparation of, reports, budgets and forecasts, and present them to governing bodies
- select and manage the performance of senior staff
- often undertake responsibility for some or all of accounting, sales, marketing, human resources and other specialist operations.
As a Corporate General Manager, you may work for large organisations, in either the private or public sector.
