Dr Zhangxin (Frank) Liu

Dr Zhangxin (Frank) Liu is a finance lecturer and researcher at the UWA Business School, delving into the field of financial engineering and asset pricing. Among his many projects in asset pricing and corporate finance, Dr Liu focuses on two research questions. The first relates to the stock return predictability of information implied from traded financial derivatives. The piece of information that is of the most interest to him is the risk-neutral skewness, which measures the asymmetry of the stock market distribution – better known as the Black Swan risk. Getting a solid understanding about this could provide new insight into the mixed findings in return predictability.

The second question falls in the field of blockchain technology (an open and distributed platform that is better known for its resistance to modification of past data) and its application in financial markets. The potential to shed light on a better understanding of the needs for different blockchain applications and their impacts in financial markets drives Dr Liu’s research.
