Dr Scott McCoombe is Sub-Dean International at UWA Medical School where he leads International student support, selection and admission and oversees the global footprint of the school.  He is responsible for developing and implementing the Medical School International strategy alongside the Dean to ensure UWA maintains its position as a pre-eminent University and Health leader in the Indian Ocean rim.  

Dr McCoombe is a member of the Medical Education Unit where he holds the position of Athelstan Saw Senior Fellow in Health, Medicine and Society.  He has over a decade of experience as a student-centred medical educator and solution-oriented academic leader.  With an infectious diseases research background spanning laboratory research through to populations, he is well-placed to teach into the modern Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program at UWA.  In addition, Dr McCoombe is an innovative Medical Education researcher and experienced in curriculum development, accreditation and governance. 

Scott’s is a collaborative educator with strengths in population health, infectious diseases, global health, evidence-based medicine, health humanities and developing clinician research skills.  His teaching and curriculum leadership has been recognised through multiple university and national awards.  He has published in medical education journals and has presented research at numerous International Health Professional Education conferences. He is a member of the Committee of management of ANZAHPE and was recently awarded an Associate Fellowship by the Association of Medical Educators Europe (AFAMEE).  Scott is a mentor for junior medical educators in Australia and has a strong track-record of securing funding for research and global education experiences for students.  He is driven to educate the brightest scholars to engage with the biggest health problems facing our global society.
