Professor Lee Yong Lim

Innovating medicine delivery technologies to address unmet needs
Lee Yong Lim is a professor of pharmaceutics with more than 25 years of research experience in the designing and testing of innovative drug delivery systems. She has worked as an academic at the National University of Singapore before moving to UWA in 2005 to assist in setting up the Master of Pharmacy program.
Professor Lim's laboratory seeks to innovate technologies to address the constraints that prevent medicines from working effectively and efficiently in patients. The constraints of interest to her include the poor deliverability of potent medicines specifically to the diseased organs at the required therapeutic levels, the inability for a medicine to be offered conveniently and safely at accurate doses to patients of a range of ages, the limited accessibility of medicines to patients in remote areas due to requirements for cold chain transport and storage, and the steadfast refusal of young patients and animals to take a required medicine because of the poor taste and smell.
Professor Lim's research expertise are to design, fabricate and evaluate delivery technologies that can be made into appropriate medicine products to address these unmet needs. Professor Lim's research focuses on three main areas: paediatric medicines, taste-masked medicines, and nanotechnology-enabled medicines.
Qualifications:
- BSc (Pharmacy) first class honours degree from the National University of Singapore
- PhD in the pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Manchester, UK
