Professor Charlie Bond

Structural biology researcher whose work has far-reaching applications

Professor Charlie Bond is a dedicated researcher in structural biology. His research investigates biomolecular complexes and their interactions, revealing how molecules function which provides the key to understanding the mechanisms of life and disease.

His academic career began with studying chemistry at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom before completing a PhD on the structure of proteins.

He completed further research in the subject as a postdoctoral researcher in Sydney and as a research fellow with the University of Dundee.

The Bond Lab drives innovative research in biological chemistry, molecular biology and structural biology, using national facilities such as the Australian Synchrotron and the Opal Reactor. The lab aims to build a three-dimensional picture of molecules and how they interact with each other. Such investigations have broad applications in synthetic biology, drug design and biotechnology.

I want to understand how the spatial arrangement of biological molecules in complexes dictates their function. I am particularly interested in protein:nucleic acid interactions, and their functions in gene regulatory complexes in eukaryotes. Professor Charlie Bond
