Pharmacology of schizophrenia, addiction and Parkinson’s disease

Neuropsychopharmacology has three major aims.

Elucidate the neural mechanisms underlying drugs that influence the nervous system.
Develop new medications to treat ailments of the nervous system.
Further our understanding of how the nervous system operates, using drugs as a tool to manipulate activity in the nervous system.

Our lab uses these approaches in the analysis of drugs and conditions related to central dopamine neurons, particularly the nigrostriatal and mesocorticolimbic dopamine pathways that underlie voluntary behaviour.
