Dr Julie Saunders

Award-winning lecturer and researcher in public health, health promotion and physical activity

 

Dr Julie Saunders is a senior lecturer at UWA. She lectures in population health, health promotion and research methods at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and coordinates the School of Population and Global Health’s postgraduate coursework programs.

Dr Saunders takes students on public health fieldtrips to Nepal and India, and conducts research in the areas of physical activity related to parenting, health promotion and evaluation, and public health in developing countries.

Dr Saunders was previously a lecturer at Deakin University, lecturing in behavioural epidemiology and physical activity. She has been awarded numerous grants and tenders, totaling in excess of $1,200,000 and has completed a PhD, in which she examined family influences on adolescent girls’ physical activity, a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education.

Dr Saunders has won numerous teaching and research awards, including the 2017 Jan Watt prize for Excellence in Public Health Field Research and a commendation in the CAPHIA Excellence and Innovation in Public Health Teaching Awards 2015.
