Dr Marilyn Bromberg is the Director of Higher Degrees (Coursework) at UWA and a positive body image advocate. Hoping to make the world a better place, Dr Bromberg has practised law for more than a decade and typically researches and writes about issues that can make a difference, such as body image law and creating legislation that bans the sale of energy drinks to people under the age of 18.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr Marilyn Bromberg moved to Perth in 2006 after completing studies in Toronto and Trois-Rivieres, Canada and London, UK. Prior to studying law, Dr Bromberg worked in television and as a journalist

She is currently finishing up a research grant with Associate Professor Meredith Blake about obesity and the law, and is working on a new article in the area of body image law. She also runs a Facebook page, beautyisonlyphotoshopdeep, to promote positive body image.

Dr Bromberg is also a casual lawyer at the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA Limited, and works as a judge of high school mock trial competitions for the Law Society of Western Australia.

She is currently studying a Graduate Certificate in Population Health Studies at UWA.

Healthway Exploratory Research Grant – 'Let’s Not Fail to Tip Back the Scales'

  • Applying the Law and Other Practical Measures to Obesity Prevention in Western Australia and Seeking Community Input about those Measures’
  • Received approximately $71,000 with Associate Professor Meredith Blake and Dr Gina Trapp to research how to use the law to lower obesity rates

2018

UWA Impact Research Grant – ‘Taming the Monster: Energy Drinks and the Law’

  • Received $6,860 to fund the airfare, accommodation and expenses to travel to Spain in 2018 to speak about energy drinks research at a conference and to pay for the airfare, accommodation and expenses to share this research in Melbourne and Canberra later in 2018
