Professor Sandra Carr

Health professions education leader for more than 20 years
Professor Carr has worked in health professions education and Faculty-wide curriculum development for 20 years. She is a mixed methods researcher with interests and publications that span selection of students, approaches to curriculum development, teaching practices, learning and assessment, and evaluation of course outcomes.
Other roles have included Associate Dean of Education in UWA’s former Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, and Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at UWA (curriculum development). Currently, Professor Carr is developing an undergraduate major in Humanities for Health and Medicine.
Since joining the University, Professor Carr has been involved in numerous projects, attracting more than $5 million of funding through internal and external agencies.
Currently Professor Carr is leading a multi-centre study called Narratives of Progression. The aim of this research is to explore the experience of medical students who may have had some interruption to their progression through the medical course and how this influences their transition to early practice as a junior doctor. The project is a collaboration between UWA, University of Tasmania, Monash University, The University of Auckland and University of Otago, and is funded by the Australian Council for Educational Research.
