Dr Sara Macliver is an accomplished soprano and teacher at UWA’s Conservatorium of Music. Critically acclaimed and with a successful national and international career, she is regarded as one of Australia’s leading performers of Baroque repertoire.
Dr Macliver studied her undergraduate degree at UWA and was a pupil of renowned soprano Molly McGurk. As a Young Artist with the West Australian Opera, she performed roles in the company’s productions such as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Zerlino in Don Giovanni, Nanetta in Falstaff, Aphrodite in Richard Mill’s Love of the Nightingale, Margana in Alcina and Angelica in Orlando.
A successful recorded artist and live performer, Dr Macliver regularly sings with symphony orchestras around the country as well as other ensembles. Her performances have included arts festivals, sporting events and high-profile engagements throughout the country.
In 2011, she was the soprano soloist in Haydn’s Creation with the Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) at the Perth International Arts Festival. She was later invited to perform with the AAM on a national tour for Musica Viva. Her career has taken her to international heights and she has performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Haydn Orchestra and recital programs in Japan.
Dr Macliver is a passionate supporter of musical education and frequently collaborates with professional music ensembles throughout Australia. She has worked extensively as a vocal teacher and run numerous masterclasses throughout the country. At UWA, she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate performance practice, with many of her students embarking on high-profile careers. Dr Macliver is also a co-ordinator for the Irwin Street Collective, a collaborative performance group at the University.
